Review: Pluzz FM Rap Bout ( Don Itchy VS Prime Stuff )
A new radio show is on Pluzz Fm dubbed ‘Rap Bout’ hosted by Sammy Flex. The show is aired every Friday from 7am – 11am and it brings two rappers in one room to demonstrate their lyrical might.
I must say this is the second positive thing to happen to rap music in Ghana after Dr. Duncan‘s “Kasahare Level“… I believe this initiative will introduce more rappers to a large number of listeners, and the same way make us aware they exist and have what it takes to thrill us lyrically. This edition had Reggie Rockstone and Da Hammer ( Last 2 ) as the judges.
The first edition had Prime Stuff and Don Itchy on it; and they had to prove their lyrical dexterity in 3 minutes in each round. The had to go for 3 rounds, but the first round is without a beat or instrumentals. It was all freestyle for the whole 3 Minutes. From my observation, Prime Stuff wasn’t projective enough even though his lines were strong and quite heavy.
Don Itchy projected more and had more humour in his rap compared to Prime Stuff. One huge credit to Don Itchy in this round is that, he mentioned the name of the host and acknowledged Pluzz FM for giving them the platform. When it’s freestyle, I think these are some of the things they will be looking for.
The second round was quite difficult to judge because, Prime Stuff went extra and mixed Twi with English—and added a bit of humour and attitude. Don Itchy was in his element as usual and attacking Prime Stuff directly, and mocking him in the process… The third round was where Prime Stuff got marked down! They had to rap with Flowking Stone‘s “Fire Bon Dem” instrumentals; and Prime Stuff chocked at where the reggae part (Hook) came in… I think Don Itchy had an upper hand for that round and as usual, he thrilled the listeners…
Over all, I think Don Itchy dominated all the rounds with his attitude, humour and projection. Prime Stuff is a great rapper but maybe not the freestyle or battle rap type. Loud Sound GH will share and review future rap bouts as soon as they get on YouTube. Watch the ‘Bout’ below…
