Editorial: 4×4 Music Group Is Ghana’s Most Relevant and Strongest
The Music Group 4×4 made up of Coded (Raphael Edem Avornyo), Captain Planet (Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey), and Fresh Prince (Prince Tamakloe) is one of the long existing group in the history of Ghana music. Somehow, they have been able to keep up their relevancy through the years.
The music group 4×4 came into existence when I was still in the Senior High school. That was when they released the monster hit song “Siklitele” when they were still under the defunct music group; Buk Bak. The group was made of 4 members but only 2 members initially and they are Coded and Captain Planet. They got discovered at KIDAFEST and has since become a name Ghanaians will never leave out in their play-list.
Coded and Captain Planet were introduced into the music scene by Bright and Ronnie (The Late) of the former Buk Bak; and they have since been a direct photocopy of their role models. Buk Bak will always be missed when you see 4×4 on stage. They later added the sensational singer Fresh Prince after he got featured on their viral hit banger “Hot Girls Dot Com“, released during the time the Ghana music scene was undergoing a season known as “CRANCK”.
These 3 guys have been on top of their game ever since and has released bangers after bangers! What I have noticed is that, they carefully look around them and pick the right song to release. Things they put into consideration includes trending topics, hot issues, and common social happenings… (Good or Bad). The have 3 VGMA awards boldly displayed in their CV.
“Kpekpele” featured on the Execution Diary and that was the time people killing others for “blood money” was all over the news. “World Trade Center” was released after the tragic event that took place in America on 9/11. People had issues with that song because they thought it was in a way mocking the sad event. But trust me, it was only reference and the best way they could draw people’s attention.
Other songs include “Waist and Power“, “Yesi Yessii“, “Contestant Number 1“, “Miss Doctor” and a lot of new ones we can’t have enough of. Looking their track records, they always leave a giant footprint when they release a song because, it is most times connected to something at that particular moment. The keep leaving hits which later becomes classics we can also go back to and enjoy.
4×4 have existed for at least a decade and they are still relevant. A music group that keep growing stronger and even fresher each day. I have noticed these guys understand the music industry and know exactly what the people want to hear from them. I respect their presence in the game and wish most artistes learn from them as well…
