Listen: Wanlov – Dis Be Ghana (This is America Remake)
Wanlov has releases 'Dis Is Ghana' after a lot of request hitting him on social media since they know Fokn Bois are the right people to get this done.
And Wanlov released ‘Dis Be Ghana’ (This is Ghana)!! But before we get into that, this is something I want you to know… Over the years, the duo FOKN Bois, especially Wanlov, talked about these things many times but looks like it doesn’t mean anything until it’s something initiated by a foreign artist. It’s a very common problem in Ghana to the extent that, it doesn’t even look like a problem anymore.
American actor, songwriter, comedian, writer, director, record producer, singer, rapper and DJ officially called Donald Glover a.k.a. Childish Gambino as his stage name released “This is America” and that got the world talking.
I feel the music video caught people’s attention and that pushed Nigeria musician, Falz, to unleash his version with similar video style but telling the story as he narrated. Now, this is the thing… Glover talked about America as it is; the odds, the offs and the absurd. Falz talked about Nigeria in his version (Obviously) and illustrated his version with a mind-blowing music video to compliment the story.
Actually, I’m more interested in the music videos than the song itself because that’s where the art of storytelling in pictures come to life. I and many others wondered what the music video would look like if Ghanaian artists tell their story with visuals.
Wanlov talked about things he’s been telling us many times again once again using the “Foreign” instrumentation and concept as initiated by Childish Gambino. What I’d really wish he did is giving us the music video without the audio. I’d really love to see his illustration since he’s already a genius with music video concept. In fact, he has shot similar music videos but for a different story. An example is “Sampanana” music video.
Now let’s see what Wanlov The Kubolor said in his version. Of course, he expressed how he feels about Ghanaians always encouraging artists to follow what is trending somewhere else and not pushing them to become unique and creative. I think Wanlov’s main reason for doing this cover or refix or remix is to tell the world he’s been doing this from Adam and it’s just a piece of cake for him.
Now let’s see what the contents are… Did you ever think Wanlov won’t talk about Anas’ latest Expose? Yes, he did and threw some light on the “Tramadol” abuse in among the youth, road accidents and lots more. This doesn’t sound too new to me because Wanlov has been about this for years. Can we just raise funds for him to shoot the music video? I’ll love that! listen to ‘Dis Be Ghana’ below.
