How Much Money Should Patapaa Be Making With One Corner
According to my projection, this is how much Patapaa should be making with his viral hit single 'One Corner' annually.
Let’s be honest. One Corner is the biggest song in Ghanaian history. Not the best, not the most critically acclaimed and obviously not the most commercially lucrative but its the biggest song out there.
It single-handedly broke the African market, U.S and some parts of Europe. There isn’t a club that jammed to One Corner. There wasn’t any pair that had the obscene dance move on locked. Patapaa became a hit man in Ghana. A young upcoming artist from Swedru became a nationwide success. But there are many platform where he said he hasn’t honestly made much money from the smash hit.
Patapaa’s smash success reminds me of Desiigner (before you start judging, read this). Desiigner has a cheap beat and transformed it to a smash hit called Panda. Every radio station jammed to Panda, every phone had the hit single on it and Desiigner became a nationwide king in USA, bagging a lucrative record deal with Kanye West. It is reported that Panda gave Desiigner a whooping $10 million. So how is it that Patapaa couldn’t achieve such a feat?
THE SYSTEM. Ghana is blessed with good music but when it comes to ensuring the success of an artist, it’s a problem. There are very good artists which smash hits but are as broke as the church mouse. MUSIGHA is he head wing of he music industry in Ghana but it doesn’t have a strong revenue making set for artists. How can Patapaa make 1k monthly in such a system?
So I took to myself to break Patapaa’s potential bank account is Ghana had a great system and he has a good management.
ONE CORNER (one year projection)
If every radio and TV station were to pay 50 cedis monthly for regularly playing One Corner; (354 radio + 34 TV stations) = 19,400 cedis x 12 months = 232,800 cedis
The artist now has 202,157 views on his One Corner song on YouTube which will generate $500 (2,227.30 cedis) on its ad network (Depending on the type of ads serve on the video and if the bidding is encouraging)
Finally if Patapaa charges 500 cedis for club performances and he rotates to 50 clubs all over ghana, he will generate 25,000 cedis.
So with a rough projection, Patapaa has the potential of making more or less than 260,027.3 cedis for the year
Mind you we haven’t added streaming to this projection… So how can any artist with a very promising career make this type of projection: hardwork, a good management team, a business mindset and a working system.
