This is the realest question I have ever asked when it comes to music. Let’s be honest here E.L is a national asset. This man was the first Ghanaian artist to release a double disc album. He was the artist who produced the first Azonto based song ever and also featured in the same song. The first and only artist to turn a Bentley into a taxi. The artist who called himself the BAR and no one has even dared dispute that. (don’t add sark’s subliminal shot cos it was misdirected)
The accolades is just plenty for one artist and im super proud to even call him one of my favorites. E.L has cheated a lot of hits but non of them can topple the magic “Minaa bo po” and “koko” did. Let’s have a timeline to it.

E.L released his second album, ELOM which was met with mixed reviews and ratings. This album was fuses with the best of hi life influence, hiplife, afro pop and hip hop. One of his songs took the waves for months. These 2 were the songs that cemented and solidified E.L as one of the best versatile artists to ever come out of Africa.
There wasn’t any phone in Ghana that didn’t have this song. There wasn’t any DJ that didn’t play and there wasn’t any major stage that E.L didn’t grace. Remember “Koko” was an awesome hit with the crossover mash up between gospel and afro pop which got topped up with Minaa bo po.
Fast forward to recent times, Lomi has released a couple of projects and has even moved from BBNZ but none of his hits has surpassed the greatness of the two.

Now im in no way undermining the critical greatness of E.L or doubting him. E.L can propel Ghana music to a larger level but can he curate another awesome hit like this ever again? Well we’d have to wait a lil longer. But until that faithful day, Minaa Bo Po and Koko will always be two of the best Afro Pop tunes of all time.
