Opinion: Sarkodie Must Be Patted and Not Insulted :- Lamy Gates
Freelance writer; Hajia Lamy Lipsy, shares her views on the recent issue involving Sarkodie trying to help a little girl who needed funds to undergo a surgery.
I am not a Sark fan but being someone who admires art in all forms, he is definitely one of the top celebrities in my good books. Some days ago, he posted pictures of a small girl who is believed to have taken caustic soda and needs some amount of money for medical attention but this kind gesture of sharing the picture with the world, seem not to have gone well with his fans.
A lot of people feel he should have just paid and not solicit for funds since money isn’t his problem.
First of all, having a kind heart and extending helping hands to others doesn’t have anything to do with being a celebrity and so everyone can freely help the other in need.
Also, celebrities have so much influence on their fans. He sharing that picture means a lot. He is teaching people to care for others and help save a life. We shouldn’t expect him or any other celeb to always have some amount of money. Besides, they’ve also got families and other things to attend to.
Are we trying to say he shouldn’t have asked for help if he feels he couldn’t be of help financially? If we are humans at all, saving the girl’s life should be paramount and not to make him feel bad for trying to help save a life. Even if he was scammed as some suggest, it doesn’t call for the plenty punches we’re throwing at him.
To me, he deserves our praises for looking outside his music business. He doesn’t use his page and influence to only share links to his songs, banger songs from colleague musicians, call for afrofuturism pictures but also cares about saving lives. our attitude is enough to discourage people, especially celebrities from helping the needy in the future.
