Pics: Ko-jo Cue Redefines hip-hop at #CueForPresident Concert

“why not make Him president already”, the question I asked myself on my way back home… I’ve been literally Awestruck by how a ‘yet to make a major to make a major breakthrough artiste’ kept  a large crowd up for hours with his back to back metaphoric and knowledge dropping works of audio art.

The #CueForPresident concert which took place on the 3rd of September at the Alliance Française, had Major attendance by Hip-hop lovers and people from all walks of life representing just to see the ‘Young Daddy Lumba‘ perform to remind the world of what he’s got. The concert was set to begin At 8pm and Surprisingly beating the usual “Ghanaman time” norm, it began exactly on time.

It started with the DJ playing some major new and old skuul Hip-hop tunes and Kojo Manuel coming on as the host MC to make a quick introduction. After that, performances began from upcoming acts, major mistake I made was, I was so engulfed in the Music I had little time to jot down names of every single one of them but I can frankly say Every single One of them Killed it!!! There was never a dull moment.

AYAT whose music I’ve been following for sometime now, got the place so turnt with his #IDKY anthem and also a couple of his other songs.

Cue was then Introduced with  The Band Musical Lunatics to kick start the main event. The Euphoria in his soulful  performance got everyone one their feet’s and also folks that were familiar to his songs singing along and rapping along. The Musical Lunatics played perfectly syncing with every single line Our ‘Incoming Hip-Hop President‘ dropped. Ko-jo just broke another general assumption which says Ghanaian artistes can’t perform live band.

He performed about 5 songs and then went backstage, Cabum one of my personal favorites took the platform to help our ‘Presidential hopeful‘ continue his campaign. Cabum has successfully carved a niche for himself as  one of the word play rappers in our rap game, always dropping witty lines here and there.

He performed about 4 songs and Ko-jo Cue joined him back on stage to perform an extra two, after this a lot of other mainstream acts took the stage as well. The whole BBNZ crew was present to support their “Youngin” President, even @DeezyDoThis was on stage to do his thing. Like I said earlier on there was never a dull moment.

Cue performed songs with Cina soul who got us high on her vocal prowess. The chemistry between Cina Soul and Cue on stage was on another galaxy all together. I may just be lying with this one but every single time Cue Changed clothes and came back on stage the message he came to deliver sort of changed.

He first came on stage in a smock and a white Afrocentric short-sleeved shirt beneath. During his performance he took the smock of  and switched from his Fela kuti vibe to some Soulful tunes. His second coming got him dressed in Military attire and every single song he performed with that attire got him hinting a takeover which I think has already happened; he likened himself to The Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.

His final change of Costume got him wearing Jordan Flights and a black tang top with a Knit cap and black pants as well. This I think was to show the  low-key gangsta in him, At that point he performed a couple of danceable tunes which got Mr Eazi joining him to perform his ‘My Baybey‘ tune. Mr Eazi was a surprise act since his name was not on the flyer and it was never hinted that he’ll be there.

All the major acts that came through to support the Young President caused major ‘Lituation’. From Pappy Kojo the Fante Van Damme to AI the ‘Grind’ hit maker… Also acts like Lil Shaker who has a lot of tunes with Cue, came through as well. EL was the final Icing on the Cake… He came to support his owns to Shutdown the Alliance Francaise.

I’ve seen EL perform countless times but this tops it all… I’m guessing Cue brings the best out of him. They mounting that stage together, should be put down in Hip-hop History. Cue performed for about two hours out of the almost 5hours the concert lasted. I could go on and on about how Ko-Jo Cue for President was “majorly” successful; but well, I’ll urge all Music lovers especially Rap music lovers and critics to be at His Next show if there’ll be any soon. After this concert, my view on Gh Rap and the hip-hop culture in Africa has changed completely.

Till I witness another concert more blissful and Intoxicating than Ko-jo Cue‘s #CueForPresident,  I’m sure all who attended have unanimously made Ko-Jo Cue President already. Greatness was witnessed on the 3rd of September and it Goes by the Name Of Ko-jo Cue.

Ps: a lot of artistes were present and I couldn’t get all names but every single artiste was Creative with stage craft, their music was exhilarating and They shined a new light on rap music. If your name isn’t in this list please pardon me for I was so hooked on to your performances I didn’t get it all.

Artistes that mounted the stage at #CueForPresident : Wan-O, YawP, Ayat, Cabum, Pappy Kojo, Dex Kwesi, Stargo, Cina Soul, AI, Lil Shaker, EL and a lot more… Check out some of the pictures below…
