TeePhlow may spark some controversies with this new single he calls ‘New Era’ produced by Ssnowbeatz.
This was released a couple of days ago, and I have been trying to connect the lyrics to see how it lights up at the end. Before I start writing about this, I want to bring your attention to something important. TeePhlow is a clever rapper; and his way of using puns, rhymes, metaphors etc are mind-blowing. I included him in the list of artistes who use metaphors correctly in Twi Rap. (READ ABOUT THAT HERE)
‘New Era‘ saw TeePhlow talking about the future of rap music Ghana; which will contain less or no “immature” rappers. TeePhlow talked about the music scene—and his concerns were, people will simply ignore your songs because they can’t dance to it. He also said rappers brag unnecessarily because that is what makes them a better rapper in the eye of Ghanaians even though they barely say anything in their rap.
His rap lines can be linked to a lot of artistes; but a couple of them got me thinking much deeper and confused at the same time… He said before you use a word in your rap, google it and know the meaning (Translated)… I’m not mentioning names here people… Let’s leave it there. He also said people claim they are “Bosom” which means “gods” and others claim they are “Chiefs” (Equivalent to KING)… I’m still not mentioning names challe!!!
Basically, I think this is talking about the current state of rap music in Ghana and how people will begin to appreciate lyrics rather than beats and choruses. He did blame the masses for supporting crap music because, when those songs are out, they keep supporting by buying them… The conclusion was that, a time will come when the real rappers will be separated from the “Wack” ones… And that will be the ‘NEW ERA’. Listen and tell us what you think.
