Six Strings – Sobolo ( Mixed by Qube )
Six Strings is the stage name of Foster Enoch Doe a guitarist and an independent artist who has worked both in the fields of music and poetry. He got his start performing at Poetry Nights with the Rainmakers, at which he was usually the only music act in a sea of poets. Six Strings refined his sound there, and soon other poetry shows came knocking.
Performances at EHALAKASA; Alewa, and N’Daba, among others, followed. Spurred on by the positive feedback he got, Six Strings then began uploading videos of himself and his guitar on Facebook, a move which only garnered more positive feedback and earned him an even larger fanbase.
With this came bigger opportunities: last year Six Strings opened a show for Dark Surburb at the Republic Bar, a show which featured many acclaimed Ghanaian musical acts. Six Strings plays regularly every Sunday night at Piano Bar, in a weekly show called Acoustic Nights. He was also featured on fellow musician Worlasi’s tracks, “Closer” and “Tell Me”.
Six Strings’ wrote his first single, Just Like Daddy, as an ode to fathers everywhere. In his own words, “I wrote it because there are all these songs for mothers, but very few for fathers.” Just Like Daddy was released in June 2015, its release timed to coincide with Father’s Day.
Featuring the musician Worlasi, the song focused on the special place fathers hold in the hearts of their children—and the responsibilities that come with it. Reverent and emotionally profound, Just Like Daddy quickly became the official Father’s Day anthem for many people.
Following the success of Just Like Daddy, Six Strings returned to the studio to record Sobolo, a track that deals with the seemingly contradictory themes of striving for a better future while simultaneously being content with what one has. Sobolo, like Just Like Daddy, deals with real life issues that are instantly relate-able to Ghanaians.
Inspired by musical influences like Bob Marley, Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill and Asa, Six Strings’ music combines catchy guitar rhythms with meaningful lyrics to deliver songs that hook the ear while delivering a message to the mind. He has appeared on such shows as TV3’s Music Music and radio stations like Joy FM, Live FM and Citi FM. He has also been featured on YoYo Tinz’s Gintar Tinz series.
