We Are The Cause Of Our Own Problems — Yungspecz #Opinions #BET

Today’s opinion is coming from an upcoming artist who goes by the name Yungspecz and also the CEO of Pagez Music. Each year, Ghanaian artists are nominated for the “Best African Act” category along side other African artists. But there has been concerns about how these awards are given and the poor planning that always comes along with it. This is Youngspecz’ opinion on the issues. Remember you can also send us your opinions to be published for free.

Ghanaians always talk ill about BET forgetting that we are the cause of our own problems. Truly BET is for the Blacks but we should remember if is truly for the BLACKS, then Brazilians, Haitians etc, will also be fighting for nominations but its never so. Why should we expect BET to treat us like we were Americans?

Have we forgotten how we treated HHP when he performed live on stage at the VGMA some years ago? We booed him off simply because he was doing rap music and most Ghanaians did not understand his music. But was he a white? But do you see that on a bigger platform like MAMAs, Channel O, BET, etc? It’s always nice to give an artist a standing ovation even when you don’t understand his lyrics or music.

I have experienced Channel O award once in my life and trust me, VGMA is nowhere it. Artists across Africa speaking different local dialect performed on stage and the response from South Africans WOWED me. They didn’t understand the language but they danced to the rhythm and backed all artists. No one here can tell me South Africans understand Twi, but when Sarkodie performed at the MAMAs last year, we all saw how the crowd responded.

Artists want BET to show them respect whilst they have no respect for chatter House. Artists in Ghana here easily disclose matters with organizer here in Ghana which I think must be confidential. How can artist take to his social media network just to say he isn’t performing at a show because the organizers failed to reach an agreement with him? Is this professional? Don’t they always say I DO MUSIC FOR THE FANS? Sigh …. And they want BET to treat them fairly? Funny enough
