Sarkodie Must Be Real With His Lyrics – Ticles #Opinions
Since the much anticipated collaboration between Sarkodie and Ace Hood was released, there has been a lot of reactions from artists, bloggers, industry players, radio presenters and music lovers too. I believe the hype the song had prior to its release made expectations went high and that also made critics take deep analysis into the song.
Ticles who is a Hip-Life artist made a Facebook post to share his views on the song and it reads “Ok so i was getting tags all over with sarks ‘new guy’..i decided to chk it out for myself to convince myself it aint hype..i listen and the first line i hear is “am the new guy,i made it from the slums of africa where most of my people commit suicide”..dude re u serious??i respect this achievement and all that but i think dude always disappoints when it matters most..that line will best fit if he made it outta poland since thats where suicide rate is highest..when ws the last time we heard of suicides even in Gh alone..rap is now a serious game mehn..people google their lines and words in studio to make sure their bars make sense..we research!..honest opinion is i didnt even listen to the whole song cos punchlines just didnt make sense..i will put return of spartans on repeat but ‘new guy’ is just hype”
Pluzz FM got him on a short interview on the AM Pluzz show with Sammy Flexx for him to explain what he was really driving at in his Facebook post. Ticles did say he was anxious to listen to the song just like anyone else but after the first 2 bars from Sarkodie, he stopped listening because he thinks Sarkodie was not real enough with his bars. He said for Sarkodie to say he made it from the slums of Africa where most people commit suicide, tells him Sarkodie is all about putting rhymes together and does not preach reality in his lyrics. According to Ticles, suicide is the least problem Ghana as a country has and he is deliberately throwing dust into people’s eyes.
He went on by saying Sarkodie has no respect for his fans; and if he did, his contents will be worthy and will make people relate easily. Ticles gave an example of a song he did with EL which he thinks the lyrics were totally out of concept. He said the song “You Go Kill Me” was basically about falling in love with a woman and loving what she does but Sarkodie’s lyrics was actually spelling out the lady’s ugly side and unusual features. His advice to Sarkodie is, he should get a technical director who can actually tell him the truth about his contents.
When asked if he thinks Ghanaians are always hitting hard on Sarkodie, he said when the song is commercial and the beat or instrumentals overshadows the lyrics, people dont really pay attention to what is being said, but rather the groove it comes with. But a song as this is strictly Hip-Hop and the beat allows the lyrics to work its way out and that is why much attention is paid to the lyrics than the groove; And that was the case of the BET Cypher as well. Ticles concluded by saying he is a great artist and he is raising the bars high but he must give back the respect his audience give him; which is putting out sensible lyrics.
