LoudSoundGH and TalkMediaGhana Presents “The Big Six” of 2014
Publishers of 2 giant music blogs; Loud Sound Ghana and TalkMediaGhana had a lunch meeting few days ago and we spoke about the music industry and also some of the artists we think made great impacts this year or improved on their talent this year… The music scene has been a very interesting one this year and we have experienced a lot of artists springing up to show the world what they are made of.
We made mention of some few artists, and those artists happens to be our “Big Six” of the year 2014. The rating is based on their energy, how relevant they have been, their style and originality of their contents… These artists communicate directly with the people and anything they put on the table is always accepted by the masses… Some of these artists are also branding themselves in a way that marvels us and they are always on point with whatever they are doing! Below are some of the artists and why they are part of the Big Six… In No Particular Order, Preference or Arrangements… By the way, artwork sponsored by Kwesi Slay!
TeePhlow: TeePhlow is a very interesting character and sometimes we try to trace him back to the past but we seem not to find any solid path and keeps us wondering how did he become this? TeePhlow has grown to become a MORE matured rapper since he became a property of The Last 2 music group. We cant confirm if the beast in him was awakened by Da Hammer, but we know something must have definitely moulded this young rapper to a more skilful artist. His releases this year has been on Charts and his collaborations defined what he can do. Even though he got on songs with some of Ghana’s most talented artists, he was able to stand tall and you could still feel his special presence on those songs. This young man will be breaking rules in 2015!! Twitter @TeePhlowGH
Dex Kwasi: Dex Kwasi has risen to be one of the most talked about musical acts this year and he came from nowhere it seems. We first witnessed him live at the BAR concert where he wooed us with lyrical dexterity on the song “Work” by E.L featuring C-Real and Dex. He has since dropped very unique music videos and has gained respect from industry heavyweights such as Manifest and Sarkodie who seem to be fond of him and tell us Dex Kwasi is next. His catch phrases WhoaWhoa and Jeezoss have created a cult following as well as his project A.$.S (African $ex Symbol). Ladies and Gents, welcome to the world of real African Hiphop! Thank Jeezoss for his blessings this year. Twitter @DexKwasi
Dark Surburb: Our attention has been quickly drawn to the newest thing in town, Known for their mysterious concept and breathtaking music… Dark Suburb; the first alternative rock band in Ghana, is sure to take over the Ghanaian music industry. The concept of the band is pretty fascinating to us because of the idea behind it, the hidden faces of the band members and also the ideology of the band which can sometimes come off as a bit scary is something that draws a lot of curiosity for the band. Dark Suburb aims at bringing out the “Dark” side of the music industry in simple terms. The side of music that has not been discovered and also incorporating art and mystery in their performances. Three (3) videos from their five (5) track E.P has been released by the band, and we are highly impressed with the quality and simplicity of these videos. We are anxious to see what they have for us next year! Twitter @DarkSuburb
Ko-Jo Cue: Kojo Cue a.k.a The Punchline King has always been on our radar and we all know his time to step on the big stage with both legs will be coming soon; but we did not know 2014 will be his big year! Kojo Cue’s story is not from grass to grace but from clouds to space! A new life began for the rapper when he became part of the BbnZ family. His most downloaded mixtape “The Shining” took him much further into the world making him grab bunch of fans accross Europe (Belgium to be precise) as well as hiphop lovers around the world. Kojo Cue is and will always be a unique and outstanding rapper of our time. As you read this, there are uncountable collaborations in pipeline waiting to be released as soon as possible!! We think he just got started and we are anxious to know what he got for us next year… Twitter @Kojo_Cue
Obibini: This collaborated article would have been Bias if we forgot to mention Obibini a.k.a. Rap Mu Wudini!! Obibini is the real definition of an underground king. Even though most of us think he is beyond the status “Underground” or “upcoming” , The rapper pictures his status in a very different way. Obibini got something which no other rapper could ever have and that is his style and story-lines… He released his debut Mixtape this year dubbed “The Mixtape” hosted by Africa’s number 1 Deejay; Dj Black! Obibini has made a lot of appearances this year than his previous years and has made consistent releases through out the year. You should check out his latest single “Wayuusu” and you will know he is ready to sweep off the wack rappers in 2015! Talk about classic rap and all you need to listen to is Obibini! Twitter @ObibiniBoafo
EyiRap: The last but not the least is the versatile female artist; EyiRap! The beginning of the year was a bit dull for her but the last quarter became very active and intense. She released some smashing singles from which “Step To The Floor” featuring Natural Face came from; and the video for that song is making a worldwide rotation as you read this… That song really made an impact whiles her hiphop single “Beast In The City” was also gaining so much airplay on Hiphop radio shows across the globe. Both songs are available for purchase on all online stores worldwide. The reason why she is among our Big Six is because of her versatility and the kind of competition she is bringing into the femcee world… She does a bit of Dancehall, does full Hiphop and what she has for Singing is beyond the word passion! Eyirap looks promising from what she has done in just these few months and we are hopeful she will dominate the game soon… We wish her all the best in the coming year… Twitter @EyirapGH
