Reggie Rockstone Talks About Hiplife And Changes It Has Gone Through

Reginald Osei who is popularly known as Reggie Rockstone a.k.a. Grandpapa introduced the Genre “Hiplife” in Ghana, which eventually spread across the continent and opening doors for young artistes to be able to voice out and express their thoughts musically. Hiplife became the mainstream Genre in Ghana which revealed more talented artistes and gave Ghana music a whole new definition. The whole Idea of Hiplife is to be able to express yourself musically the Ghanaian or African way.

Some people including myself thought the Hiplife dream has lost track and was no more what we thought it was before but, Reggie Rockstone thinks Hiplife did not lost its tracks but went through an evolution process which he sees as a good thing. Despite the “Mini” genres that came from Hiplife, Reggie Rockstone said he will always be proud he introduced hiplife and he knows the genre will survive through soo many generations; and that makes him feel like Muhammed Ali. He also said he is proud he can now walk around wearing clothings made by a Hiplife artiste. (Then the camera shows his SARK sneakers)

Reggie Rockstone has collaborated with lots of international artistes as well as a couple of Ghanaian artistes, but his favorites were Wyclef Jean and Mensa of FOKN Bois. This was because these 2 are the artistes who got same ideas as him when it comes to music. He went on to recommend Mensa by saying he is a very talented artiste and someone he can easily merge ideas with musically at any time. However he said he could not have made a collaboration with VIP back in the days because they both had different things going on. But now, they have gotten to one stage, where they can easily come together and decide on the kind of song to make and for which purpose.

The video below talks more about Him joining VIP, the concept behind the SELFIE song, what makes him frown about the Hiplife genre, throws more lights on what VIP or VVIP stands for and what VVIP is up to. Watch video below and get the whole interview. Please share!
