Artiste Of The Month: Nii Addo Quaynor a.k.a. Tinny

Its a new month and our artiste for this month happens to be Nii Addo Quaynor who is well known in the music scene as Tinny. I must say he is one of oldest artistes in Ghana; and if I say old, it has nothing to do with his age, but his existence in the Ghanaian music scene. He started music a very young age and even at that time, he rocked the stages of “Kiddafest” and “Fun World” which I know most people wont know what it is about. LOL These 2 programmes are the major programmes that brought entertainment for kids to life! It also helped in discovering great talents such as rappers, singers, dancers and stage drama actors/actresses…

Tinny was known on stage as “Black Nature” back then until he teamed up with 2 of his friends Buke and Salam who called themselves “Black And Agony” and was changed to “Nature and Agony” after joining up with Tinny and the group was managed by Tinny’s father Mr. Ricky Tetteh Quaynor. Somewhere along the line, the other members of the group did not like the idea of Tinny’s father involving in their stuffs so they decided to step out and that dissolved the group.

When Tinny got to Akuapeman Secondary school, his father arranged a recording session for him with Hammer of the Last 2 which made Tinny an official foot soldier to the Last 2 music group. Most people who knew Tinny back then will agree with me he rapped in twi as well until Hammer advised him to stick to the GA and nothing else. I guess that made his dreams come true as a unique artiste and he was one of its kind since he could rap GA with proverbs which most people who speaks GA needed to consult others to break some words down for them. I personally called him the “Obrafour” of GA rap!

Tinny finally made a break through with “Makola Kwakwe” in 2003 which Ghanaians accepted whole heartedly and was viral on Radios and TVs. Tinny became the official first GA rapper to dominate the music scene in Ghana and I can say even today, Tinny still holds on to his unique style which cant be compared to none… He later released “Aletse” in 2005, “Ka Bu Ame” in 2007, “Attention” in 2008 and  “Regular Champion” Vol1 in 2013. This year (2014) Tinny will sure be releasing “Regular Champion” Vol2

Some of the awards he got so far are, “Best New Artiste Of The Year” 2004 at the Ghana Music Awards and won same category at the UK version of Ghana Music Awards, “Young Musician Of The Year” 2004 at the Youth Excellence Awards and “African Artiste Of The Year” 2009 at the Hip Hop World Awards… He was also part of the first Ghanaian BET Cypher which also featured D-Black, Sarkodie, Kwaku-T, Edem, BabyG & Reggie Rockstone in 2010. So many years down the lane and not to mention the platforms he climbed and collaborations he did. Oh… I even forgot to mention he was the first Ghanaian to collaborate with American Hiphop star; Ja Rule during his visit to Ghana. In short, Tinny has achieved a lot and contributed massively to Ghanaian music. Below is a short video compiling some of his monster hits…
