Delasi and Yaw P About To Open A New Chapter In The Ghanaian Music Scene.
Imperfections: The Break Up Album
A new era has come to Ghanaian music – there is a new sound and an alternate way of thinking about music in Ghana. The Break Up Album is one of the first conceptual joint albums in a very long time in Ghanaian Hip-hop, if not ever by Yaw P & Delasi. The Break up is the part one to an Imperfections franchise; Imperfections is a concept that runs through the album, from the cover through to the message in the lyrics. People are not perfect, we play or object to rules. The first introduction to this comes already on the album cover art which symbolizes a Ghanaian bachelor with an outfit that is flawed in many ways.
This Album has a number of Firsts to its accolade. It’s the First full album release from both Yaw P and Delasi , it’s the first time they’re both working on a joint project, and it’s also the first time exploring and pioneering a new era in Ghanaian sound. All the songs were engineered and produced by Yaw P, written by Delasi and Yaw P and mixed and mastered by one of Ghana’s diamonds in the rough Beatmenace.
The album takes us through the full circle of a relationship – but as the title will tell us, the focus is on the part where things go sour. The album is an emotional exploration, we feel the first excitement and happiness and we feel the pain when these initial emotions wear off. The message is not for men alone, it is an opportunity for women to listen and understand the opposite sex’s take on relationships.
The Break Up Album explores a certain kind of spacious, hip hop and electronic sound scape that is not heard in Ghanaian mainstream music but remaining indigenous to Ghana at the same time.
Yaw P is a Producer/ Rapper born in the USA and brought up in Ghana, experiencing two worlds both through life experiences but especially in music. Yaw P has been able to find the balance between these two worlds which has given him this particular sound. A sound that Delasi Loves to term “Rich White Boy Cocaine Music”.
Delasi also known as the Soul God brings to the album his soulful baritone voice, that kind of voice the females would just love to stay on the phone all night for; with his poetic lyrics and vivid metaphoric imagery. Delasi also brings with him the sound from different hits such as; Where Do We Go , Cut you Off and Sweety, Sweety, the latter being his guest appearance on Reggie Rockstone’s Reggiestration Album.
Album comes out this February with the Single “The Break Up” dropping on the 13th of February at 3pm and The main album on the 27th. It will be available on ITunes, Google Play and Amazon. However, Ghanaians will have special copies of the album for download on twitter by following @yaw_p and @delasimusic.
