BIOGRAPHY: Upclose With Ohene
Kumasi is known to be a city where good artists spring up. Well, Ohene can’t be left out of the list when mentioned. This young and energetic emcee known officially as Odame Edmond was raised in Dichemso but currently resides in Buokrom estate.
He commenced his education at Paradise Prep. School, then to Haiceford Int. He finally completed his SHS education at Aduman SHS.
As a kid, he listened to the songs of 2pac, Ja Rule, Lord Kenya and Obrafour using cassettes which he got from his brother who used to sell them. Then at his primary school days, he would grab a mic and drop some bars at occasions like vacation parties.
Ohene grew his passion for music when he saw Obrafour, Lord Kenya and Reggie Rockstone perform live at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi. He describes it as one of the glorious moments ever witnessed.
Ohene, formally known as Matyme went for the Next Big Thang in GH Hip Hop auditions which he dropped himself out due to some peculiar reasons.
He has 2 main singles and is working on more. His latest single, “Keduwa” got about 2000 downloads. He has also mounted stages with stalwarts like Keche and Kaaakie at Sunyani Poly, and also performed at his alma mater during their Awards’ Night show.
Ohene, which in English would refer to ‘King’ aims at empowering Africans, especially the rappers to be intellect in their way of thinking and making music, and above all make some good money and reach an international level to yearn for grammies. As he gets his inspiration from Eminem and Reggie Rockstone, he’s putting in much work into his music to delight his listeners with the best he can offer, Join me let’s push this guy to the top and benefit from his good works.
